Abstract

Sustainable tourism sector development requires the support of human resources (HR) who are competent, professional, and adaptive to industry dynamics. In Indonesia, one of the main challenges in tourism development is the low quality of tourism education and training. This study aims to examine the main issues related to human resource development in the tourism sector, focusing on education and training in the Jakarta Old Town area as a case study. Through a literature review approach, this study identifies several challenges such as the gap between the tourism education curriculum and the needs of the industry, limited access to continuous training, and lack of competency certification. The study also evaluates the strategic efforts that have been made by local governments, educational institutions, and industry players in overcoming these challenges. The results of the study are expected to provide policy recommendations that can strengthen the capacity of Indonesia's tourism human resources in the future.
